ToolChatGPT

The night before a four-day trip to Alicante, a Good Housekeeping UK writer asked ChatGPT for a light-packing capsule. It suggested about eight clothing pieces plus shoes and swimwear, insisted she take one stand-out dress for evenings, and they haggled over how many pairs of shoes she really needed.

I'm going to [DESTINATION] for [NUMBER] days in [MONTH] with only [HAND LUGGAGE / A SMALL CASE]. Here's what's in my wardrobe that I'd consider taking: [LIST CLOTHES AND SHOES]. Build me a small capsule from what I already own (no shopping), tell me what to wear on the journey to save space, and give me a simple outfit for each day and evening.

How to try it

  1. List the clothes you’re actually considering, rather than asking for a generic packing list.
  2. Tell ChatGPT what you’ll wear on the plane so the bulkiest items stay out of the case.
  3. Push back where it’s unrealistic (shoes, for example) and ask it to adjust the plan.

Draft a multi-day bike tour with Perplexity, then check every distance

Planning six days of cycling around Lake Champlain, a rider gave the same prompt to several chatbots. Perplexity was the only one to produce a real loop around the lake, even reminding them to pack a passport for the Canadian leg, but its day lengths were uneven; the others misstated distances and ChatGPT suggested a hotel that didn't exist. In the end the rider rebuilt the route in RideWithGPS.

Decide whether a rail pass is worth it for your trip with ChatGPT

Planning a winter trip around Europe, a traveller uploaded his list of city pairs and travel days and asked ChatGPT whether a Eurail pass made sense. It helped him choose a 15-day pass over two months, decide which journeys to use it for, and flagged that ferries weren't covered and Italian high-speed trains need €15 seat reservations.

Get two AI tools to plan your trip, then combine the best bits

A couple planning Tunisia had ChatGPT and Claude each design a day in the same three cities, then built their own plan from both. ChatGPT's ambitious desert day was too much, but Claude's food tour and two historical detours became highlights.
