Tech columnist Joy Schwabach told Copilot what was in her sister's pantry and fridge and asked for an oil-free, salt-free, sugar-free vegan recipe. When she explained she had to cook early, Copilot steered her away from two dishes that would go soggy and towards a Moroccan sweet potato and black bean tagine, which went down well with the family.
I'm cooking for myself at [WHOSE HOUSE / OCCASION] and I eat [DIETARY NEEDS, E.G. VEGAN, NO OIL, NO ADDED SALT OR SUGAR]. Here's what's available in the pantry and fridge: [LIST]. Suggest three recipes I could make with these. I'll need to cook it about [HOURS] before we eat, so tell me which one will hold up best when made ahead, and why.
Replace the [PLACEHOLDERS] with your own details before you send it.
How to try it
- List what’s in the kitchen and your dietary needs for Copilot (or any chatbot).
- Mention timing, such as making the dish early, and ask which option will keep best.
- Pick one, cook it, and ask follow-up questions about swaps if you’re missing something.

Work out what went wrong with your homemade pizza from a photo, with Grok
Her first homemade pizza came out with a thick, undercooked crust, so a home cook photographed the result, uploaded it to Grok and asked how to improve. Grok told her the oven was too cold, which she then fixed for her second attempt.
Here's a photo of the [PIZZA / BREAD / CAKE] I just baked. I used [RECIPE OR INGREDIENTS], baked it at [TEMPERATURE] for [TIME] in a [TYPE OF OVEN]. It came out [WHAT WENT WRONG, E.G. THICK AND DOUGHY IN THE MIDDLE]. Looking at the photo and these details, what are the most likely causes, and what one or two changes should I make next time?
Get a personal audio briefing on a wine-pairing menu with ChatGPT and NotebookLM
Before a French wine-pairing dinner, one diner uploaded the menu to ChatGPT and asked it to explain each wine and why it went with each course. He then put that research into NotebookLM and listened to its audio overview on the way, arriving knowing what to look for in each glass and why each pairing worked.
Here is the menu for a wine-pairing dinner I'm going to: [PASTE OR UPLOAD MENU]. For each course, explain the wine (grape, region and style), what to notice when tasting it, and why it was chosen to go with that dish. Add a little background on the regions, and finish with a short overview of how the meal progresses. Keep it friendly and jargon-free.
Hand Grok the menu plan and shopping list when you’re too tired to think
Back from a big trip with eight children and no brain space left for meal planning and shopping, one mum asked Grok to give her a hand with both.
We've just got back from a trip and I'm exhausted. Plan [NUMBER] days of simple family dinners (and breakfasts and lunches if you can) for [NUMBER] people, including [AGES OF CHILDREN]. We already have [WHAT'S IN THE CUPBOARD]. Keep prep under [MINUTES] minutes, avoid [DISLIKES OR ALLERGIES], and finish with one combined shopping list grouped by supermarket aisle.
